Most Indian backpackers arrive in Nha Trang from either Hoi An/Da Nang (running south) or Ho Chi Minh City (running north up the coast). Both are sleeper bus territory.

The Da Nang sleeper is the one most travellers ask about. The good buses (Phuong Trang, The Sinh Tourist) leave around 6pm and arrive 5 to 6am. They’re flat-bed, blankets on board, and cost ₹2,578 (~700,000 VND or ~$26.74). The bad ones are local minivans with broken AC that stop at every town. Pay the extra ₹737 (~200,000 VND or ~$7.64) for the reputable operators.
If you’re flying in, Cam Ranh International is 35 km south of the city. The official airport shuttle (Van Hanh) drops you at the central beach for ₹368 (~100,000 VND or ~$3.82); Grab is ₹810-₹1,031 (~220,000-280,000 VND or ~$8.40-$10.70). Don’t take the unmarked taxis outside arrivals, they overcharge by 2x.

Your 24 Hours in Nha Trang: Hour-by-Hour
6:00 AM to 8:00 AM: Land, Drop Bags, Hit the Beach
If you’re on the sleeper bus, you arrive between 5 and 7am. Most hostels won’t check you in this early but they will store bags, hand you a towel, and let you shower. Drop your stuff, brush your teeth, head straight to the beach.
The main beach (Tran Phu) is a long, east-facing strip. Sunrise is over the water. The sand is dark and a bit coarse but the water is calm and warm. There are free public showers on the seafront and most beach chairs at the resorts will let you sit if you buy a drink. Don’t rent a lounger from the random guys who walk up, they’ll charge ₹368 (~100,000 VND or ~$3.82) for a chair that’s free to use.
Breakfast: grab a bánh mì from any vendor on Tran Phu for ₹55 (~15,000 VND or ~$0.57), or pull up at Cơm Nhà Nha Trang if it’s open (8am). They’re a Vietnamese rice place, simple, cheap, the kind of breakfast you’d want after a night bus.
8:30 AM to 11:30 AM: Choose Your Morning Activity
You have one morning. Pick one of these:
Option A: VinWonders Nha Trang. Vietnam’s largest amusement park sits on Hon Tre island, a 15-minute cable car from the mainland. Tickets are ₹3,241 (~880,000 VND or ~$33.62) per person and that includes the cable car. The park has roller coasters, a water park, an aquarium, and an indoor arcade. For families it’s a full day. For backpackers it’s about three hours: cable car ride, the drop tower, the water slides, get out. Option B: Snorkeling or Island Tour. Most day boats to the nearby islands leave around 8:30am and return at 2pm. 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM: Seafood Lunch
This is the meal Nha Trang exists for. The seafood scene is dominated by two styles: cheap-and-cheerful local joints where you pick the fish from a tank, and slightly fancier beachfront restaurants with English menus and Western toilets.
For the local experience, Hải sản Mộc quán Nha Trang is consistently rated 4.9. You point at the live seafood, they weigh it, grill it, bring it with rice and greens. Đài thiên văn Nha Trang (Nha Trang Observatory) sits on a hill just south of the city centre. It has a small planetarium, telescopes, and a roof terrace with a 360° view of the bay. The Cai River Basket Boat Eco Tour is the best off-beaten-path option in Nha Trang. Local guides paddle you around in traditional woven boats, explain the river ecology, you stop at a small village. 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM: Coffee + Beach Walk
By 4pm the heat is gone and the locals come out. Walk the seafront promenade from Tran Phu all the way up to the night market area. There are dozens of cafés along the way.
Santorini Cafe & Restaurant Nha Trang is the place if you want a proper Western-style coffee (espresso, oat milk, etc.) and a sea view. A latte is ₹221 (~60,000 VND or ~$2.29).
7:00 PM to 9:00 PM: Dinner + Nightlife
For Indian food: Omars Indian Restaurant and Ganesh are the two spots Indian backpackers consistently mention. Both have butter chicken, dal, naan, biryani. Meals run ₹295-₹552 (~80,000-150,000 VND or ~$3.06-$5.73) per dish. Mecca Lemongrass is the Vietnamese-with-Indian-spices option if you want lighter food.
For local: another round of seafood at Fish House Nha Trang, an Italian-Vietnamese fusion place that’s surprisingly good (rated 4.8). Or push into the night market on Tran Phu for grilled skewers, mango sticky rice (₹55 (~15,000 VND or ~$0.57)), and cheap beer.

Vietnam’s three main carriers all work in Nha Trang. Viettel has the strongest 4G coverage in the coastal strip, MobiFone is fine in the city centre, Vinaphone is the cheapest.
