The Top New Year Destinations in Southeast Asia
You have eight serious contenders. Each one delivers a different kind of midnight, and the right pick depends on whether you want a beach, a city skyline, a temple bell, or a backpacker street party.
Bangkok, Thailand
Bangkok runs two parallel NYE scenes. Sukhumvit (Soi 11, Thonglor, Ekkamai) hosts the rooftop crowd: sky bars with countdown packages, bottle service, and fireworks visible from high-rises between Silom and Asok. Singapore extends MRT hours and adds extra buses. KL’s LRT and MRT run extended hours (check local advisories for possible free rides). Hanoi, Manila, and Bali have no real public transport, so it’s taxi, Grab, or Gojek.

Insist on the meter, or use Grab. In Bali, the airport taxi mafia is notorious year-round and even worse on NYE; pre-book your Grab before you clear arrivals.
