When to Go

Indonesia has two seasons: dry (May to September) and wet (October to April). The dry season is when flights are most expensive and Bali is at peak crowding; the shoulder months (April, September, early October) give you the same weather at 20–30% lower prices. Labuan Bajo and Komodo are best in dry season because the boats don’t run in heavy swell. Sumatra and Java get rain year-round but it’s usually 2-hour afternoon bursts, not all-day.

Common Mistakes

Trying to do Bali, Yogya, and Komodo in 7 days. It’s not the budget that breaks you, it’s the transit time. The realistic minimum is 10 days for two regions, 14 for three.
Paying the airport taxi counter without negotiating or using Grab/Gojek.
